Waynflete Singers

The Waynflete Singers were founded in 1970 to support Winchester Cathedral in singing large scale choral works, and since then have acquired an enviable reputation across Winchester and the South as a leading choral society performing both sacred and secular works.
2020 was our 50th anniversary year, and we eventually performed our Golden anniversary commission by Roderick Williams in October 2021, a truly celebratory occasion and a joyous return to live performance after the pandemic.
The choir performs at least twice a year in Winchester Cathedral and has a reputation for concerts of a high standard, using professional soloists and orchestras. We regularly perform with outstanding professional orchestras such as period instrument group Florilegium, the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Mozart Players.
Our conductor is Andrew Lumsden, Director of Music at Winchester Cathedral; our previous directors were his predecessors David Hill, Martin Neary and Alwyn Surplice. Our accompanist is George Castle.
The Choir currently has some 110 singers, drawn from many walks of life and from all over the region. We rehearse each Thursday evening in the United Church in Winchester.
